Have you ever lost your keys? Okay, wait. Let me rephrase. Have you ever lost a single, loose, key? I mean, who hasn't? And what do you do when you lose a key? You retrace your steps. It's only natural. Of course you'll find it, right? If you go backwards, from whence you came, how can you miss it. Well, this morning, I found out. One of life's mysteries has been solved. I was sitting on the bench at the bus stop by my house, reading the daily newspaper. While looking down at the paper I noticed a key on the ground. It was shiny and so out of place there among the fallen autumn leaves. It stood out like a sore thumb. I thought to myself "damn, that sucks, someone must be looking for that thing." Something inside of me wanted to pick it up. However, I resisted. After all, I am pretty confident that someone is going to come back to this bus stop looking for that thing. It's only natural. So, against my will, I left the key alone and went back to my paper.
Soon after, a middle aged man, that I barely noticed until a few second later, sat down opposite me on the bench, at which point, the key caught his attention too. This man definitely did NOT think twice about the repercussions of his actions and pick that key right up. He looked at it for a minute as if he recognized it, then he chucked it into the street. It was all I could do to refrain from yelling, "dude, someone definitely lost that and I'm willing to bet they won't be checking the street for it!" at him. Fortunately, for both him and I, he got up about 10 seconds after he threw that key and kept walking down the street. He wasn't even waiting for the bus!
The key to life, people are thoughtless. Just a little something to think about....
